Guided walkthroughs
The “Show me around” list on the Welcome page, what each walkthrough covers, how to replay one and what skipping does.
A walkthrough is a small bubble that points at a real control, says what it does in a line and moves on when you press Next. It never presses the button for you, and anything it opened to show you (a panel, a settings pane, the sidebar) is put back when it ends. Cluinn offers each one the first time you reach the thing it’s about, and you can take any of them again later.
Where they live
Click the round ? button at the bottom of the sidebar, to the right of your account chip. It opens the Welcome page, the same page a new account starts on. Scroll past the two start cards and the Tips row to Show me around, headed “Short walkthroughs. Take one any time.”
Each row is one walkthrough, with a word on the right saying where you stand: Start, Resume if you stopped part-way, Replay if you skipped it or Done.
Tips and Show me around are two different sections. A Tip card opens a short video; a Show me around row walks you through the real app.
The walkthroughs
| Walkthrough | What it points at | When it offers itself |
|---|---|---|
| The basics | Dictating, your hotkey, where dictations land | The first time you see the Welcome page |
| After you speak | One dictation, re-running it, writing styles | The first time you open Dictations, once you have one |
| Make it yours | The five rows behind Personalize | The first time the Personalize panel opens |
| Quick pills | Where a new quick pill starts | The first time you open Quick pills |
| Call presets | Where a new preset starts | The first time you open Call presets |
| Personas | Where a new persona starts | The first time you open Personas |
| Snippets | What a snippet is and how it’s triggered | The first time you open Snippets |
| After a call | The ask box, the transcript, your past chats | The first time you open a saved call |
| Folders | Asking a whole folder, its takeaways, its files and notes | The first time you open a folder that has calls in it |
| Settings | The main Settings tabs, one after another | The first time you open Settings |
Make it yours works differently from the rest. The Personalize panel is navigated by hovering, so each row explains itself as the pointer crosses it. There’s no Next: move on when you’re ready, and the panel closes as it normally does.
Four more have no row, because each belongs to an editor you have to open first: Quick pill, New quick pill, Call preset and Persona. Open one of those editors for the first time and its walkthrough starts there.
The Calls panel has two of its own: Starting a call on the Calls bar, and During a call once a call is running.
Taking one
Click a row and Cluinn goes to where the walkthrough belongs, then starts. Most go to a page. Folders opens one of your own folders that has calls in it, and After a call opens one of your saved calls. They use what’s already there; nothing is created, changed or sent.
While one is running:
- Next moves on. On the last step the button says Done.
- Skip stops it. It’s hidden on the last step, where there’s nothing left to stop.
Esccounts as Skip.- The dots show how far along you are. Click one to jump to that step. They’re hidden when a walkthrough has a single step.
- Clicking the control the bubble points at also counts as Next.
Only one is ever on screen, and none appears over a dialog, a confirmation or the ⌘K palette. After one ends there’s a short gap before another can offer itself, so two never arrive back to back.
If you leave part-way through, nothing is lost. The row reads Resume and picks up at the step you left.
What “seen” means
Each walkthrough keeps its own place: finished, skipped or the step you stopped on. That’s saved with your account settings, so something you’ve been shown on one Mac isn’t offered again on another. See Sync & backup.
Skipping one silences that one. It stops offering itself and nothing else changes: every other walkthrough carries on as before, and the skipped one stays on the Welcome page marked Replay.
A replay ignores all of that and runs from the top.
If a walkthrough has nothing to point at yet (the Dictations one before you’ve dictated anything, or a folder with no calls in it), it doesn’t run and isn’t marked as seen. It waits until there’s something to show.
If walkthroughs are turned off
Skip silences the walkthrough on screen, and each one is offered only once. If Show me around ever says “Walkthroughs are turned off”, press Turn them back on and the full list comes back.
What Basic accounts see
Calls is part of Pro. Four of the walkthroughs are about Calls (Quick pills, Call presets, After a call and Folders), and they follow the same rule as the rest of the app:
- On Pro, or during the free trial, they behave like any other row.
- On Basic with no calls to browse, the four rows aren’t there at all, the same as in the sidebar.
- On Basic with calls saved from a trial, the four rows are greyed. Pressing one opens the Plan sheet instead of running the walkthrough.
Without Calls access they never start automatically, and the two Calls-panel walkthroughs need the panel, which Basic doesn’t open.
The Settings walkthrough visits only the tabs you have: during a free trial it skips Backup, which appears when your plan starts.
