Plans & trials
What Basic and Pro each include, how the free trial works and the monthly hours that come with every plan.
Cluinn has two plans, and the difference is one word: Calls.
| Plan | What you get |
|---|---|
| Basic | Dictation in full, including personas, snippets, the dictionary, languages and Smart translation |
| Pro | Everything in Basic, plus Calls: live transcription with answers during the call, chat about saved calls, Coach and PDF downloads of AI answers |
Both come monthly or annually. Current prices are on the pricing page.
The free trial
Every plan is offered with a free trial. Each plan card has two buttons: one starts the free trial, and Subscribe now charges straight away. Start the trial and you add a card, but nothing is charged that day; the checkout screen shows the exact amount and the date it will be charged. If a trial isn’t offered on your account, the card shows Subscribe now on its own.
- All Pro features, whichever plan you picked, so you can try Calls even if you chose Basic. When the trial ends, you move to the plan you chose.
- A fixed pool of hours for the whole trial, one for Calls and one for dictation. It’s a pool for the trial, not a monthly allowance, so it doesn’t reset part-way through. The current figures, and the trial’s length, are in the fair-use section of our Terms.
- Encrypted backup doesn’t run during a trial. It appears in Settings → Backup once your plan starts, and where encrypted backup is switched on for your account, everything from the trial is backed up then. See Sync & backup.
Before the charge, you get two emails and a banner in the app over the trial’s last days, all naming the same amount and date. Cancel any time before the trial ends and you won’t be charged.
Two things work differently from a paid plan:
- Cancelling ends the trial straight away, not at the end of the trial period. You haven’t paid anything, so there’s nothing to run down, and the app tells you so before you confirm.
- If the hours run out early, the trial ends there and you aren’t charged. The app offers one button to start the plan you chose whenever you’re ready.
There’s one trial per person. A trial is tied to your email, your Mac and your card, so a Mac or a card that has already been used for one can’t start another. If you’ve already had one, you can still subscribe at any time, with any email, Mac or card.
When Calls is locked
- Locked Calls controls are greyed out and open the Plan sheet, never an error.
- Your saved calls stay on your Mac, and the transcript stays yours: view, copy or download it on any plan, trial or not.
- Chatting about a call, Coach and downloading an AI answer as a PDF are part of Pro, and the free trial includes all three.

Monthly hours
Every plan comes with an allowance of hours that renews on the 1st of each month. It’s a fair-use ceiling, set well above normal use. The figures in force are published in the fair-use section of our Terms, and they’re the same ones the app uses.
A few things worth knowing:
- You won’t see a number until you’re close. The app shows nothing until you’ve used 80% of a month’s hours, then a short note appears on the Usage sheet, which opens from the account-chip menu, not from inside Settings.
- Reaching a limit doesn’t take anything away. Everything you’ve recorded stays where it is; a call that reaches the maximum length saves what it has, and you can start a new one.
- Hours renew on the 1st, whatever day you subscribed.
- If you need more, ask us. We raise individual accounts at no extra cost.
Where you stand at any moment is on the Usage sheet; see Usage.
