Custom dictionary

Add your names, products and jargon once, and Cluinn fixes their mishearings after every transcription.

What the Dictionary does

The Dictionary fixes mishearings of your words after transcription: names, product terms, acronyms, anything Cluinn keeps getting wrong. Add a word once and future dictations spell it your way.

Click Personalize in the sidebar, then Dictionary under Dictation in the panel that opens beside it.

Add a word

  1. Switch on Enable Dictionary at the top of the page if it isn’t on already. It’s off on a new account.
  2. Click New Entry.
  3. Type the correct spelling in Main word, for example Kubernetes.
  4. If you like, fill in Add your own (comma separated) with the wrong spellings that keep showing up, one per line or separated by commas: cooper netties, kuber nettis.

You usually don’t need Add your own: Cluinn predicts the likely mishearings of each word for you. Use it when one particular wrong spelling keeps slipping through. What you type there is used exactly as written, without the checks the generated ones go through, so keep it to spellings you’d never use on purpose. An everyday word there gets replaced wherever you say it.

Click Save when you’re done. The sheet doesn’t save as you type, and closing it with unsaved changes asks first.

How corrections work

Your words are passed to the transcriber as a hint, so many come out right the first time. What happens to the rest depends on the dictation:

  • With a persona or a translation running, the AI clean-up gets your words and fixes near-misses with the whole sentence in front of it.
  • With neither, Cluinn swaps known mishearings itself: whole words only and ignoring capitals, so a match inside a longer word is left alone. That happens on your Mac, straight away, and a dictionary entry on its own never sends your text to the AI.

It’s one or the other, never both.

Turn it on or off

Enable Dictionary (“Auto-fix mishearings of your words after transcription.”) turns every correction on or off at once. Your entries are kept either way.
